In the Ides of March (March 15) of 44 BC he was murdered Julius Caesar within the Curia.
"When he had sat down, the conspirators gathered around him as if to honor him and immediately Cimbro Tullio, who had taken on the task of giving the signal, approached him as if to ask him something, and since Caesar refused him and with the gesture he showed that he wanted to postpone that matter to another moment, grabbed him by the toga on both shoulders and while shouting at him "But this is violence! " one of the two hit him in the front, wounding him just below the throat.
When he noticed that they were coming upon him from all sides with raised daggers, he wrapped his head in the toga to fall more decorously.
He was pierced by 23 wounds.
It is said that turning to Marcus Brutus * while the latter was pouncing on him, he exclaimed "You too my son!"
Almost none of his killers survived him more than 3 years and none died a natural death, they were all condemned and perished in different circumstances, part in shipwreck part in battle; some took their own lives with the same dagger with which they had violated the body of Caesar. "
