Plaque with the relief of Fortuna, replica in terracotta, inspired by the decoration of a Roman period lamp, 1st century A.D., displayed in the Archaeological Museum, Este.
It represents Fortuna, the winged goddess with the horn of abundance giving gifts to men. In the cult of Fortuna (or Tyche) the destiny and fertility come together. The famous sanctuary dedicated to Fortuna was located in Preneste (the current Palestrina) to which the whole population of Lazio flowed to in seaching for answers of the future. The goddess was in fact responsible for the fate of the Romans.
It is often depicted with cornucopia, which is an emblem of abundance and fertility.
