This fascinating tête sculpture pays homage to the abstract forms created by Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884-1920). In 1909, after meeting Constantin Brancusi (French, born Romania, 1876–1957), Modigliani began sculpting stylized, elongated heads in stone, producing approximately 25 works. His sculptures, like his painted portraits, draw inspiration from African art, the ancient Cyclades, and Sumerian, Egyptian, and Greek art.
