Our Venus Aphrodite Callipigia is a reproduction in Carrara marble of a copy Roman of the original bronze greco from the 2nd century BC, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.

Venus Aphrodite Callipygia, is the goddess of beauty, and in this sculpture it shows its perfect and refined forms. Represents the canons and ideal beauty of ancient Greece, and is considered by art scholars to be the maximum expression of sensuality carved in marble.

The term "Callipygia" derives from the Greek word "Kallipygos", which means "with beautiful buttocks".

In this work we notice the goddess's body tilted to the left, with her gaze directed towards her buttocks, her hair is collected with a single lock that falls and rests on her neck. She lifts her dress with her arm, in the act of revealing her hips precisely to show her bottom.

Historical Curiosities

The figure of the Callipygian Venus, whose name means "Venus with beautiful buttocks", is one of the most intriguing and iconic representations of the goddess Aphrodite. Legend tells of a competition between two sisters from Syracuse to determine who had the most beautiful buttocks. Once the winner was declared, the judge fell in love with her, and from this myth the cult of the Callipygia Venus was born.

This statue has origins dating back to ancient Greece, but became particularly famous in Rome. The original version, exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, represents the goddess in a pose that highlights her physical beauty, reflecting the cult of aesthetic perfection in antiquity.
