Our Venus at the bath, is a bronze interpretation of the statue of Venus at the bath from 17th century, part of the Barsanti collection at the National Museum of Palazzo Venezia, Rome.
It represents the goddess preparing for her bath, a symbol of purity and sensuality. Venus, Aphrodite to the Greeks, is one of the most iconic figures in Greek and Roman mythology, worshiped as the goddess of love, beauty, and fertility.
The sculpture highlights her ideal form, an expression of perfection and aesthetic harmony.
Historical Curiosities
Venus (or Aphrodite) was considered the goddess of love and beauty. There are various myths about her birth, such as Homer's, which states she was the daughter of Zeus and the nymph Dione, or the legend that she emerged from the sea foam in spring. Wife of Vulcan (Hephaestus), she was considered the accidental cause of the Trojan War.
The goddess was worshiped by sailors because she was believed to calm the sea. She also had the ability to make the earth enchanting because, according to Greek and Roman mythology, flowers and plants sprang from her steps.
Often depicted by artists like Botticelli.
