Descrizione

The Torso of Perseus is a reproduction in Carrara marble of Cellini's bronze sculpture, created in 1545-54, and considered one of the most famous in Florence.

This statue of the Torso of Perseus represents a part of the hero's figure, capturing his heroic essence and the physical perfection typical of classical representations. Greek art, with its idealized forms and the cult of heroism, finds in this reproduction a perfect expression of its style and philosophy.

The figure of Perseus has been a popular subject in classical art, and numerous sculptures and frescoes depict him in different poses and moments of his life. His torso recalls the original statues found in archaeological excavations, many of which were part of temples or sacred places, where they were venerated as symbols of courage and virtue. This reproduction is inspired by these ancient masterpieces, bringing a piece of history and culture into your home.

Historical Curiosities

Perseus is remembered above all for killing the Gorgon Medusa, for saving Andromeda, who later became his wife, from a sea monster and for being king of Tiryns, after renounced the throne of Argos in favor of Megapenthes and Mycenae, a city he founded himself.

From his wife Andromeda he had many children, including Electrione (his heir and grandfather of Heracles) and Gorgophone (mother of Icarius and grandmother of Penelope, wife of Odysseus).

Maintenance

To keep the Torso of Perseus always shining, we recommend cleaning it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, use a damp cloth with warm water, and dry the sculpture well after cleaning to prevent the formation of stains or streaks. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
