Historical Curiosities

Hippocrates of Kos (circa 460 BC - 370 BC) is one of the most important figures in the history of medicine. He is best known for the Hippocratic Oath, a code of ethics still considered fundamental to medical practice today. Although there is no evidence that Hippocrates actually wrote the oath, it represents the ethical and moral principles that he promoted in his medical school.

An interesting fact is that Hippocrates was one of the first to separate medicine from religion and superstition. While previously illnesses were often attributed to divine intervention, Hippocrates promoted the idea that illnesses had natural causes and could be treated through observation and study. This revolutionary approach laid the foundation for scientific medicine as we know it today.

Hippocrates also left a significant imprint through the Corpus Hippocraticum, a collection of approximately 70 medical works written by his followers that document the foundations of ancient medicine. This corpus includes treatises on diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, and surgery, many of which are still relevant.

Maintenance

To keep your Hippocrates marble bust in perfect condition, clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the marble surface. If necessary, you can use a solution of warm water and neutral soap, drying immediately with a clean cloth to avoid the formation of streaks.
