Statue of Hermes at rest reproduction in 3D of the bronze sculpture of the time Roman, datable around 79 BC. The original statue was found during the Excavations of Herculaneum, in 1758 and is kept today in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Hermes it's a part of Greek mythology, in Rome it is known as Mercury. For the ancient Greeks, the spirit of passage and crossing was embodied in Hermes: they believed that the god manifested himself in any type of exchange, transfer, violation, overcoming, change, transit, all concepts that refer in some way to a passage from one place or state to another. This explains its being related to the changes in man's lot and why he was one of the few to have permission to frequent the Underworld.
The work depicts the young god Hermes, the messenger of the gods, resting on a rock.
