Roman Crotalia earrings with three pearl pendants, a silver and metal replica of earrings found during excavations at Pompeii, Oplontis and Stabiae, kept at the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Ancient Crotalia earrings had pendants with one, two or three pearls that produced a pleasant tinkling sound as they struck each other. This common type is documented in a Fayum portrait and described by Pliny (NH IX 14).
These Crotalia earrings are handmade in metal using an ancient technique. The hooks are made of 18K gold-plated 925 silver.
