Historical Curiosities

The enamelled ring takes inspiration from the jewels found in the buried city of Herculaneum, a place rich in Roman history and culture, where luxury and elegance were part of the daily life of the elite.

The discovery of the bodies of over 300 inhabitants allowed the recovery of an exceptional number of jewels. In many cases they were worn by matrons or kept in bags or boxes, in which the most precious objects of the family's heritage were placed for the excited moments of escape.

Gold, together with silver, were the most used precious metals in the jewels of the dominant social classes of the time. Roman. Enamel was also widely used for its ability to add color and vibrancy to precious metals, without compromising their quality. The contrast between gold and enamel was particularly loved by Roman noblewomen, who considered enamelled jewelery symbols of social status and good taste

The techniques used to create these jewels required great mastery, and only the most expert craftsmen were able to create complex and refined pieces such as those found in Herculaneum.
