Historical Curiosities

The Rialto Bridge is the oldest and most evocative of the four bridges that cross the Grand Canal of Venice and is one of the most photographed and visited monuments in the world. His triumphal arch is still the protagonist of all Venetian popular festivals.

Built in 1591, replaced an earlier wooden bridge and became a crucial point for Venetian trade, connecting the commercial areas of Rialto and San Polo.

Its architectural design, with a single large arch, was considered an engineering marvel of the time and today is one of the most iconic symbols of Venice. On the central arch there are sculptures that depict the Annunciation, while on the opposite side they appear the images of San Teodoro and San Marco, the patron saints of Venice.
