Historical Curiosities
The House of the Tragic Poet was aimperial style house, located in Pompeii, in front of the forum baths. The mosaic with the dog on the chain was very common in the homes of the ancients. The peculiarity of this signal lies in the engraved phrase, which later became proverbial. The purpose of placing this sign was precautionary, and served to discourage potential customers.
