The Hercules Farnese Marble Statue is a faithful reproduction of the famous sculptural masterpiece from antiquity. Originally carved in marble and standing 3.17 meters tall, this extraordinary work of art dates back to the 3rd century AD and is currently housed at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
However, the Hercules Farnese we admire today is a Roman copy of an even older work, originally made in bronze by the Greek sculptor Lysippos in the 4th century BC.
The Hercules Farnese depicts the Greek mythological hero in one of his moments of rest, after completing his twelve labors, which symbolize mankind’s struggle against the forces of nature and chaos. The sculpture captures the hero in a thoughtful pose, taking a moment of pause and reflection after the battle. Leaning on his club, this posture, expressing both physical strength and inner contemplation, has become an icon of power and perseverance.

Historical Curiosities
The Hercules Farnese has a fascinating history intertwined with the culture and politics of ancient Rome. Lysippos’ work was very innovative for its time, emphasizing the human aspect of the hero, showing not only his physical strength but also his fatigue and contemplation.
The 3rd-century AD Roman copy was discovered in the Baths of Caracalla, a place dedicated to relaxation and well-being for Roman citizens. The sculpture was later acquired by the powerful Farnese family, one of the most prestigious families of the time, from whom the work takes its name.
The statue is a tribute to the superhuman strength and determination of Hercules, who through his impossible feats became a symbol of mankind’s triumph over adversity.
Maintenance
To keep your marble sculpture always shining, it is recommended to clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper cleaning, use a solution of lukewarm water and neutral soap, avoiding the use of harsh chemical products that could damage the marble surface. Always dry with a clean cloth to prevent the formation of halos or stains.
