The Crotalia two-pendant earrings are a refined example of jewelry inspired by antiquity. It is a reproduction in 18K gold-plated 925 silver of the earrings found during the excavations of Pompeii, in the villa of Oplontis and Stabia, kept in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
These earrings, characterized by a dangling design with delicate spheres, reflect the "Crotalia" style (from the Greek "krotalon," meaning jingle), a type of earring typical of Roman noblewomen. The spheres, positioned to oscillate slightly, produce a light sound with each movement, evoking the ancient charm of Pompeii.
Crotalia earrings were very popular among Roman elite women, particularly matrons and noblewomen, during the imperial period. These jewels were made with pearls, gold and precious stones, and were found in the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, perfectly preserved under the ashes of Vesuvius. They also represented power and social status, being worn during important ceremonies and banquets.

We watched Pompeii the new dig and my wife June was fascinated at the discovery of the crotalia gold pearl earrings. To be able to purchase them direct from the museum for shipment to the UK was amazing. We were notified of the progress of our order at every stage. I first bought these earrings when I visited Pompeii in 2022. Somehow, I lost them and it was horrible! They're not only pretty and go with pretty much everything (they're good quality and look right for special occasions or every day), but they have the interesting talking point of a connection to history. I was thrilled to be able to rebuy them over the net. They arrived really quickly and were safely packaged. I'm very impressed!
