Lost-Wax Casting
The process begins with a wax model of the sculpture. It is enclosed in a mould and heated until the wax melts away, leaving an empty space for the molten bronze.
Once the bronze has cooled, the mould is opened and the sculpture is worked by hand: cleaned, chased, refined, and prepared for its final patina.
The Classical Subject
In classical art, a figure was rarely neutral. Gods, heroes, rulers, and allegorical figures carried recognizable stories and associations. In a contemporary interior, that history remains part of the object.

This sculpture representing the faun with pipes takes inspiration from some drawings found during the excavations of Pompeii and from a fresco preserved in the national museum of Naples.
The protagonist of the work is the Hellenic god, depicted with goat legs, tail and human torso.
The faun is a Greek-Roman mythological figure, often depicted as a nature god who plays the pipes.
In Greek mythology he is also known asPan, and is a pastoral deity associated with woods and fields. It represents joy, student spirit, parties, fun and, in general, the freedom of life.

The faun was a divinity who, according to myth, did not reside on Olympus, but in the woods and intimidated anyone who disturbed him with his frightening voice. The god of fields and pastures is at the center of various legends also about his origins. One of his narrations believes him to be the son of Zeus and the nymph Callisto.
He represented nature as a whole for better or worse. God of fertility and unbridled freedom, the birth of the flute was attributed to him. In fact, it is said that the nymph Syringa, to escape him, invoked the help of the Naiads and was therefore transformed by them into reeds. The faun, listening to that sound given by the blowing of the wind, decided to build the instrument.
Maintenance
To keep your bronze statue always shining, it is advisable to clean it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Absolutely avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. When necessary, use wax to restore shine to the work.
