Silver and gold were the precious metals mostly used in the high class jewelry collections in Roman times. Some long gold necklaces, bracelets and armilles in gold, including two couples with snake heads, cameos, rings with onyx gems, agate and carnelian engraved with images of divinities, mythological characters and symbolic objects were discovered during the excavations in Pompeii.
