Description

Lantern Roman Satyr of the three fires reproduction in terracotta,  I - II century AD

Terracotta oil lamp depicting a Satyr, an ancient male mythological representation of Pan and Dionysus. In religion Roman it is also known as Faun. Often imagined as a bearded being, sometimes with horse hooves, a wine addict and a great flute player. His representations can be found in Hellenistic-Roman painting (as for the Satyr of the so-called villa of Cicero in the national museum of Naples and the frieze of the villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii).

They were often used on the door of the ancient Romans, as figures that served to drive away negative influences and evil spirits
