This Rooster-shaped rattle is made of terracotta. The rooster is the animal symbol of goodness and is linked to the cult of Mercury (Hermes), from whom it was thought to receive divine influences at dawn.
The song of the bird was in fact associated with the belief that it wards off evil spirits

Historical Curiosities
The rooster, dear to Aesculapius (god of medicine), often appeared in contrast to the serpent. The first was emblem of healing, however, the second instead led to death.
Furthermore, for the ancient Greeks it represented the personification of military valor.
