Descrizione

This smooth crescent lunula pendant is a 925 silver reproduction of an ancient jewel.

In ancient Rome, the bulla was an amulet children wore throughout adolescence. Worn around the neck like a medallion, it could be made of different materials depending on the family’s economic standing. Its main purpose was to protect the child from evil forces and spirits.

Girls wore a different type of amulet, the lunula, until marriage, when it was removed along with other childhood objects. It was worn on long gold chains wrapped several times, with a crescent-shaped bulla (the lunula, a gift on the day of birth), a wheel or both on the same necklace.
