Historical Curiosities

In ancient Rome, the bulla was an amulet children wore throughout adolescence. Worn around the neck like a medallion, it could be made of different materials depending on the family’s economic standing. Its main purpose was to protect the child from evil forces and spirits.

Girls wore a different type of amulet, the lunula, until marriage, when it was removed along with other childhood objects. It was worn on long gold chains wrapped several times.

Customer Reviews

Overall rating: 4.7 / 5 from 3 reviews.

I'd fallen in love with this piece and had hoped to purchase whilst on holiday in Italy this summer but just didn't see it at any of the sites I'd visited ... and I visited A LOT of sites! :) So, ordered on coming home. Had an immediate confirmation of order and then nothing else for weeks. Nothing was showing on the tracking apart from order being prepared. It took two emails to get a reply from customer services. The piece followed swiftly in the post - delivered within days of that. Beautiful piece but very slow service which gives the impression of a lack of care - just a few updates to notify me of timescales / any delays would have been fine.
